Fishing, Boating, Walking, Hiking, Biking TrailsLake Weir – One of the largest lakes in Marion County covering 5,685 acres, Lake Weir is in the town of Ocklawaha. You can enjoy the Lake, various parks including Hampton Beach Park (0.7 miles from the Bay Road entrance to Lake Weir Living) and Carney Island Park (4 miles from the Bay Road entrance to Lake Weir Living). The Lake offers sandy beaches at Carney Island, Hampton Beach and Kiwanis Beach Park. For boating or fishing, you can launch your boat from Carney Island, and Hope Boat Ramp Park. On Carney Island, there are beautiful scenic points at Bird Island and Lemon Point. Located on the other side of Carney Island is Little Lake Weir and Sunset Harbor, which borders The Villages® in Sumter County. Lake Weir Living offers wonderful opportunities for fishing, boating, and many other water sports. The Ocklawaha and Silver Rivers are only 4 miles and 14 miles away, respectively. Carney Island Park Recreation & Conservation Area – Located on Lake Weir, Carney Island (560 acres) offers walking trails, hiking, biking, picnicking, swimming, and several public boat ramps. Its convenient public boat ramps give families and individuals the chance to fish or leisurely cruise the Lake all year-round. It offers an outstanding playground, picnic areas with grills, volleyball, a sandy beach, swimming, and walking trails. Florida Greenway – Just off SR35/Baseline Road (SE 58thAve) is access to the Florida Greenway, which is 70,000 acres with 110 miles of trails and recreation areas for those who want to enjoy the natural habitats of Florida by hiking, walking, biking, or horseback riding in designated areas. The Greenway Park playground offers jungle gyms, swings, and a beautiful sand play area for the little ones (15 miles). Ocala National Forest – Established in 1908, it is the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River.
Equestrian/Horseback Riding ActivitiesThe Florida Carriage Museum & Resort is home to one of the world’s finest collections of carriages (7 miles). Step back into the past and enjoy more than 160 European and American Carriages including the elaborate 1850 Armbruster Dress Chariot once owned by Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria, and his wife Elisabeth. Uncle Donald’s Farm - You could visit with the animals, relax and enjoy the great outdoors. Everyone can have a chance to visit a real farm. Hand feed cattle, watch for llamas and ostriches on the hayride. The poultry patch includes many "heritage" breeds of chickens, including Jersey Giants, New Hampshire and lots of fancy bantams.
